A City Born From Space
How would a fictional city look and feel like? These are all questions that we were asked when we were first assigned our concept city project. As an icebreaker in to the architectural realm, it was meant to be an assignment where we could explore different methods of visualization and familiarize ourselves with the software.
Having just come back from a trip to my hometown of Caracas, Venezuela, I wanted to use this project to explore how a city of opportunity can take the shape of a city of misery in the wrong hands—A city that exemplifies class divide, exploitation of the environment, and monopolization.

Asteroid City
Millions of years ago, a roughly faced asteroid filled with extraterrestrial space rock and minerals collided with the earth. As the decades, centuries, and millennia ticked away, the dust once kicked up by the asteroid impact settled upon the crater, covering the asteroid's contents under a sheet of earth, simply becoming nothing more than an unpopular tourist attraction in the middle of nowhere. In a distant future, a group of researchers find the remains of the meteor deep beneath the crater, and a sample of the mineral showcasing its sci-fi like energy-producing abilities creates a worldwide “gold-rush”. As big corporations around the world fight each other to extract the most of the asteroid, and race against each other to be the first to harness the power mineral to its fullest, a city infrastructure quickly develops around the site. Here I welcome you to Asteroid City.
